Established on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Baku is a unique city that developed along historical trade routes between Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Dominating the city skyline, the Flame Towers (Alev Kuleleri) symbolize Baku's contemporary architecture, visible from every corner of the city with their evening light shows.
The Inner City (Icherisheher) is a historical district surrounded by medieval walls listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The long seaside promenade of Baku Boulevard along the Caspian Sea, the vibrant shopping atmosphere of Nizami Street, and the grandeur of Fountains Square are among the city's top highlights.
Gobustan National Park is an extraordinary open-air museum listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, housing prehistoric rock art dating back approximately 40,000 years. Stone Age hunting scenes, dancing figures, animal depictions, and ship drawings reveal Azerbaijan's earliest traces of human activity. Toured alongside its museum, the Gobustan region offers a distinct experience for history enthusiasts, photography lovers, and nature seekers alike.
Azerbaijan is home to more than half of the world's total mud volcanoes. Instead of real lava, the Gobustan mud volcanoes spew cold mud and gas, creating a landscape akin to another planet. This unique natural formation offers both a scientifically fascinating and photogenically breathtaking experience. No other point in the world hosts such a dense concentration of mud volcanoes.
Built on the Absheron Peninsula at a site where underground natural gas has burned continuously, the Ateshgah Fire Temple served for centuries as a pilgrimage site for Zoroastrian, Hindu, and Sikh pilgrims. Carrying a deep meaning alongside the name "Azerbaijan" (meaning "Land of Fire"), this structure deeply affects visitors with both its historical and mystical dimensions. The flame rising from the central hearth has remained lit for thousands of years.
Designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the Heydar Aliyev Center stands as one of the boldest and most authentic examples of contemporary architecture. Tracing a single flowing curve with its undulating white facade, the building is among those rare structures where architecture meets art, whether viewed from inside or outside. Housing exhibition halls, concert spaces, and cultural venues, the center is the strongest symbol of Baku's modern identity.
Shirvanshah Museum Restaurant is one of Baku's most prestigious and authentic dinner venues. In this unique atmosphere where historical artifacts worth millions of dollars are displayed, a special gala night is hosted, complete with live music, traditional Azerbaijani dance shows, and a regional ambience. Offered as an optional event for guests who wish to closely experience Azerbaijani culture and create the tour's most memorable moment, this evening requires advance reservation. Price: 75 USD per person.
